One of the most challenging and rewarding things we have ever attempted to do as a small business is renovate an old historic building, we will soon call home. The process is expensive, time consuming, and we are constantly problem solving. 90% of the time it is filled with excitement. Every penny we have profited over the last year and a half has been directly funneled into this mission of bringing our storefront to life. Sure we could have paid rent to a turnkey store and did just fine, but the passion and character wouldn’t have been there. So we chose to renovate a building that needed some love. We wanted this renovation to be part of the mark our business has left on this state.
In the last couple weeks our faith in this project has been tested. We recently got a brand new AC unit installed that cost more than I am willing to say publicly. Three months after getting this installed we had some low life human cut $3 worth of copper from our unit essentially rendering it unusable and ruined. It was explained to us as the equivalent of running your car without oil. As a business owner we had what we thought were the correct safeguards in place; insurance. However, the insurance we have does not cover vandalism because we are not actively occupying the building yet. So this leaves us to pay another $5,700 to replace the vandalized unit. As an eternal optimist, I'm always looking for the good in everything. I noticed this new piece of artwork the vandals left behind. This beautiful graffiti. I am someone who despises those who steal art from others. However, I am going to make an exception. As of today we are offering a pre-sale on this 304 graffiti design to help us pay to replace our AC unit. This vandalism is not going to ruin us, we will be fine but that doesn’t fix the fact that we have been wronged. If you like the design and wanna help us stick it to the folks that decided to steal from us, grab yourself a shirt. If for some crazy reason we raise enough to pay for the new unit we will donate every additional dollar to a local charity. While this is a step backward it is not anything we can’t fix. We just think it is important for us to share all the good, but also some of the challenges as well. Thank you all for being there with us every step of the way!
P.S. For those wondering, we have done our due diligence on this design and have confirmed with the police that this is not any sort of gang related artwork that they are aware of. It is just some person's tag they decided to deface our building with. Additionally, we have also installed security cameras, filed a police report, and are scheduling for a fence to be installed.
