High above Capitol Street in Charleston, WV, a tiny figure squeezes out from the bricks between buildings 108 and 110. Known as Mortar Man, this 2–4 inch sculpture was created in 1994 by artist P. Joseph Mullins during a lunch break while working nearby.
Originally unnoticed, Mortar Man has since become a beloved hidden gem. When renovations threatened his spot, locals rallied to save him, and won. Next time you’re downtown, look up. You just might spot Charleston’s smallest work of public art.
Weather Resistant! We Suggest putting it on cars, trucks, coolers, laptops, helmets, your cat, your dog, you can put it on a sandwich, or pretty much anything you want.
